Liao Xiaoyi
Liao Xiaoyi is a Chinese environmental activist, film producer, and journalist. She encourages a “green lifestyle” through reduced consumption and decreased use of harmful practices in daily lives. As the founder of China’s largest NGO Global Village of Beijing in 1996, she promoted environmentally sustainable development through community participation.
She was the environmental adviser on the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee in 2008. She has received many awards including the 2009 Hero of the Environment by Time Magazine.
