I don’t separate architecture, design, or culture. What’s more important is a language of creativity that carries meaning

Neri Oxman

Neri Oxman is known for art and architecture that combine design, biology, computing, and materials engineering. She coined the phrase “material ecology” to define her work, placing materials in context.

As a designer, architect, and founding director of The Mediated Matter Group at MIT, Oxman has developed new ways of thinking about materials, objects, buildings, and construction methods. Her work is inspired and informed by nature with the goal for physical structures to have more compatibility with their environment through engineering and natural processes. Her work is included in nearly every major design museum.
