Sakena Yacoobi
Sakena Yacoobi is an Afghan activist, doctor, and professor who founded The Afghan Institute of Learning, to provide Afghan people with education, legal assistance, and healthcare to women and children. Over 12 million Afghans have benefitted from its training programs since its founding in 1995.
Yacoobi has also built the Professor Sakena Yacoobi Private High Schools in Kabul and the Professor Sakena Yacoobi Private Hospital in Herat and set up her own radio station called Meraj. She has received six honorary doctorates and many awards including the Opus prize awarded to social entrepreneurs who are solving the world’s most pressing problems.
